Christmas came early for Matt today! The camera I have been coveting finally arrived. I chose the Canon because I had lenses from a non-digital camera I have.
Deuteronomy 11:13-14
13‘And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to love the Lord your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul, 14then I will give you the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil.
NKJV
This is how I spent my day. The barfing had ending in the middle of the night, but I felt like garbage all day. I spent the day watching the History Channel. They were showing programs about blizzard-related disasters.
Proverbs 27:19
19As in water face reflects face,
So a man’s heart reveals the man.
NKJV
The day began normally and had a normal middle. It ended with me violently vomiting up everything I had eaten all day. I love flu season.
Thankfully, I hadn’t put off the taking of the day’s picture until after work. If I had, it might have been of a more graphic and splashy nature. It showed me that sometimes I won’t be able to post every day. As long as I take a picture every day, I’m satisfied that I have met my commitment. I’d just better not let too many days pile up or it’s over!
Anyway, today’s picture is a common sight where I work. Somewhere in the building, the AC or heat isn’t working so you see a torso-less set of jeans sticking out of the ceiling. Just after I snapped this shot, the guy came out of his hole and nearly saw me taking his picture. I need to develop the photographer’s lack of shame.
Psalms 37:3-5
3Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
4Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
5Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.
NKJV
It’s only the second day of taking a picture a day and I’m finding that I will need to be creative in finding interesting pictures on normal days. Hopefully that pressure will spark some creativity and I will be able to contribute something interesting to the world… yeah, sure.
Right now, one of my garage bays is full of scrap wood. I moved it out of the workshop earlier this Fall so I could give the workshop a thorough cleaning and rearrange the tools in a more useful configuration. After a couple of years working in the old mess, the clutter and placement of the tools was getting on my nerves.
Now I need to clean the wood out of the garage so I can park my car there over the Winter. I don’t enjoy scraping the frost off of my car windows. Most of the wood is usable stuff, but some of it is rotten old barn boards that were pulled off of the workshop when I added a new door. That wood I am slowly working through and burning in my burn barrel. It’s a slow process because adding just a small amount of wood makes a sizable fire that is very uncomfortable to get close to. It must be the air-holes I cut in the bottom.
Proverbs 9:10
10“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
NKJV
Last night I was browsing a couple of photography forums and came across Project 365. Basically, you take a picture that represents something memorable about your day for an entire year. Someone suggested this as a good way to force yourself to improve your photography skills. If you’re taking at least one picture every day, you’ve got to improve by some measure.
I was planning on starting January 1st, but I’m not very patient. The shots taken for the rest of the year will be good practice. I will use the time to get comfortable with writing these posts. I may also be posting about other random stuff. Any new photo sets I like I’ll be sure to post here. I will also post the Bible verse or verses I happen to be reading and thinking about that day.
For today’s photo, I set up my camera with the timer to snap a shot while I was cutting a pine board for some trim-work in my house. My shop-apron (calling it that makes it sound manlier) makes the photo look like an ad for Grizzly. I am please with the exposure, but I wish I had used a slower shutter-speed. With everything frozen in time, there is no movement in the shot. It looks like I am just posing with a piece of wood pressed up against a stopped blade. With a little blur, you could have seen the spinning wheel of death, ready to turn a careless hand into hamburger, or fling a board through the air impaling an innocent passer-by.
Jude 1:10
10But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves.
NKJV
